Advertising Pays if…
Everyone knows that print advertising is a must, however poor ads are
a waste of money and energy. They may also give the reader, a potential
client, the wrong impression of Hypnosis. The following are important,
"Do's"!
"An effective ad is made up of several elements, each is crucial
to its success. When these elements are blended into a meaningful whole",
says John Hughes, "the ad is more likely to accomplish its objectives".
- Message: It should be believable,
stated simply, be truthful, and there should be only one big message
in each ad.
- Design: It should be uncluttered,
organized to emphasize the message, be attractive and easy to read.
Display ads need plenty of "white space". Put a boarder around the ad,
so that the eye stays focused on your copy.
- Type: It should be familiar to
the audience, be large and readable, suitable for the message, plus
there should be a continuity of type faces.
- Artwork: It should be logical,
acceptable to the audience, and it should support the message. Use it
only if you can afford 1st class art! A business type picture of you
is most appropriate. It creates trust.
- Medium: It should reach your
targeted market and be cost effective. Classified ads are economical,
as they can be run frequently. Be sure to have a header put in for HYPNOSIS.
Remember, flyers and business cards are also advertising.
- Frequency: In advertising, the
rule of thumb is three. Three times is a minimum. Spaced repetition
is how we learn and why ads pay off. In fact, the ad should run often
enough to push the message into the reader's consciousness. This is
known as retention value. Sounds like waking hypnosis! Factors
to consider are frequency of publication, size and intelligence
level of audience, amount of competition, initial drawing power of the
ad and your advertising budget. In today's world, people will drive
50 miles for good service.
Print media seems to work best for selling
services. People have a tendency to cut out ads, put them is a special place
until needed, watch to see if they appear again, and so on. It is important
to have a professional do your design work. Advertising is an art, and unless
have an eye for 1st class production work, leave it to the ad person.
