Meditation with a Purpose and God's Blessing
(Or How to change the world by changing negative beliefs)

When I initially encountered hypnosis approximately 15 years ago, I looked at it as a quick technique to help me be of service to others. After learning much about hypnosis, I realized 1) how little I really understood about it and (2) how very similar to prayer it seemed to be. For me, I have always felt that when you dialogue a particular situation with yourself, your subconscious, etc, you are really talking and communicating with God. Conversely, if one's subconscious is "bothering" oneself or playing "devil's advocate" over a decision that has been made or is in the making, this can be perceived as God talking to the individual. This concept allowed me to perceive hypnosis, for many years, as a type of honest, subconscious dialogue to help the body reach a degree of inner harmony.

After several years of referring individuals for self-hypnosis, I decided that it was time to go down another path and teach meditation to younger children. However, adhering to the medical school axion of "see one, do one, teach one", for encountering new situations, I set out to first observe and learn some meditation in order to proceed. This experience certainly made me feel that meditation was extremely similar to prayer and self-hypnosis---but with meditation having a greater emphasis on "quieting from within" to be able to achieve inner harmony and enjoy more energy to focus on life's purpose.

Taking Dr. Spencer's most recent course of hypnosis, I perceive hypnosis as being a much more purposeful and goal-oriented form of meditation, with the joining in of God or Spirit (or whatever form you perceive this to be). My equation at this time is: Goal oriented or Purposeful Meditation + God or Spirit=Successful Hypnosis.

Human beings are the only living creatures on the planet, which can be100% responsible for our lives. We are gifted to be able to turn anything and everything that we encounter into either good or bad. This allows us to be very powerful, very free, and very blessed. My perception is that hypnosis helps to allow us to delve into this amazing anatomy and physiology of our human mind and body to utilize a very minute area of the vastly expansive and infinitely brilliant mind-body communication system, which God has created. In my heart, I believe that we have not even touched upon the "tip of the iceberg" of power that the subconscious/conscious and mind-body connection has to offer.

Belief systems are very empowering on our lives and the necessity to create good health. Core beliefs (which are deeply ingrained and which we are often brought up with from childhood) can greatly impact our physical bodies. Negative beliefs impact our lives dramatically. Positive beliefs can have an extremely positive effect on our life outcomes. Through hypnosis, I feel we can choose (and teach others to choose) to cancel the negative and affirm the positive. This brings us back to my belief that prayer, meditation, and hypnosis (with guided visualization) are important tools for changing core beliefs.

It is my hope and prayer to help spread my perception of hypnosis to the many individuals that I am blessed to encounter on a daily basis through the medical -profession. Although my schedule does not presently permit that I have the time to give a hypnosis session to every individual, it is my desire that through education and respect I can acquaint my patients and staff to the many benefits acquired via this "education-communication process called hypnosis"---or meditation-or prayer-to assist each and every individual in creating health on the physical, psychological, spiritual and emotional planes. Once we recognize that there is no clear-cut separation between body and spirit, we will all be able to increase the subtle vibrational energy between them and help speed recovery. Energy is an important variable that can speed recovery and hypnosis (purposeful or guided meditation with prayer) can mobilize energy and go straight to what the spirit is composed of to promote healing.

Just as the world is constantly changing, so is my dynamic perception of hypnosis. I wend the deepest gratitude and appreciate to Dr. Anne Spencer and all my classmates for sharing this wonderful and life-changing education-communication course and experience with me.
